Rest & Restore 4RWellbeing

We are all worthy of rest. While this basic human necessity is often thought of as a luxury it is not. Rest is essential to our wellbeing. What does it mean to rest? One might think that resting is simply the ceasing of work, movement, and stressful activities in order to relax, refresh oneself, and recover strength. Yet, how often do you take a day “off” and fill that time with other responsibilities or continue to mentally run through the items on your “to-do” list waiting for you when you return from “resting.” When what the last time you intentionally withdrew from the world to create space between yourself and the outside world for stillness, peace, and connection to your deepest Self?

Yoga Nidra is a beautiful and accessible yoga practice. Often practiced comfortably lying down, you are gently guided through states of consciousness, bringing oneself into a deep resting state while remaining awake and aware. Yoga Nidra can help release tensions in the body, mind, and emotional states. The practice of Yoga Nidra activates the relaxation response within the body (counteracting fight or flight responses), helping to restore the nervous system, improve insomnia, reduces anxiety, improves chronic pain symptoms, and supports healthy brain functioning.

“It takes courage to say yes to rest and play in culture where exhaustion is seen as a status symbol.” Brene Brown

Beloved, as we approach this hustle and bustle of the holiday season, I invite you to prioritize your Self-care. Remember to rest. If you are interested in exploring the practice of Yoga Nidra in person, then I invite you to join me and Heidi Henyon as we co-host our, Rest & Restore 4RWellbeing workshop. Together in conscious community you will be invited to retrain your musculoskeletal system with gentle yoga, restore your nervous system with yoga nidra, reframe your thoughts with inquiry inspired by A Course in Miracles, and remember your connection with your-Self through mantra, prayer, and sound healing.

Fostering Forgiveness: An Act of Self- Love

Forgiveness is an act self-love. We are born worthy of kindness, honesty, respect, love, gentleness, honor, and forgiveness simply because we exist. Yet, negative life experiences can often contribute to the gradual forgetting of our inherent worthiness. Forgiveness is a personal choice to release oneself from the weight of emotions like blame, resentment, shame, and/or anger due to harm experienced. Forgiveness involves a change in personal feelings and attitudes, often creating an opportunity for inner growth and progress by the release of negative emotions. Forgiveness doesn’t condone wrongdoing.

“Forgiveness addresses how we feel about others and ourselves and how those thoughts manifest within our lives as energy.” Iyanla Vanzant

When we do not create space to process our experiences, they will manifest in the body. Energetic imbalances can manifest as exhaustion, chronic pain, anxiety, depression, tension, insomnia, stress, and physical/emotional imbalances. Recovery and freedom lie in our willingness to bravely meet with our suffering, get to know it, learn from it, and transmute it. The Body Keeps Score author, Bessel Van Der Kolk, states that “at the core of recovery is self-awareness”. Yoga therapy offers a safe, accessible way to cultivate self-awareness around sensations in the body with breathwork, gentle movement, inquiry, meditation, and mantra as a practice to remember our Self, and our right to freedom and wellbeing

This October 19th, 2024, join me and Heidi Henyon as we co-host a two-hour beginners workshop on Fostering Forgiveness. As we align with the energy of fall, we will utilize gentle yoga, guided inquiry, meditation, and sound healing to explore forgiveness, acknowledge this season of growth, and let go of what is ready to be released.  Check out Heidi’s website here, she is amazing!
